The Low Down on Construction – October 5
On Sunday I will be traveling to Ottawa of our Annual Merit Canada Lobby Day. Each year I look forward to joining my fellow Merit colleagues and industry leaders from across Canada on Parliament Hill.
Lobby Day is a vital component of Merit’s National Advocacy efforts. Our members’ concerns deserve to be heard by Canada’s decision makers, and we take that responsibility seriously.
It is very important that the current Members of Parliament and Senators understand the issues and challenges open shop contractors face in today’s construction environment.
As a strong and unified national voice, we plan to focus on key issues such as the proposed re-introduction of the Fair Wages Act, open tendering, and fairness and transparency in procurement. Through these direct meetings, we will reinforce that we provide a cohesive and influential front for our open shop contractors.
This is also a great time for me to renew relationships with Merit executive leaders from coast to coast. We have the opportunity to share thoughts, ideas, and programs that can help enhance the benefits of your membership.
I have always believed that when you respect the people that you work with, you value their input and ideas and they value yours. Working together, we will develop solutions based on collective insight, wisdom and creativity.
I look forward to providing you with a detailed update of our National Merit Lobby Day efforts in my next blog.
