The Low-Down on Construction – November 20, 2019
Meeting the challenges of the future and planning for continued growth has been at the core of MERIT’s advocacy for years, and we have continually worked with the government to help ensure the province can meet its goals. That is why MERIT welcomes the province’s release of the growth plan for 2030.
The province’s growth plan for the next decade sets ambitious, yet achievable targets in a number of areas including attracting capital investment, maintaining competitive tax rates, and most welcome for MERIT’s members, a number of investments in key areas including cutting red tape for businesses to thrive, innovative transformation through emerging technologies, and building new infrastructure for both residents and to expand Saskatchewan’s export sectors.
Overcoming the infrastructure deficit of the past, building for the needs of today, and planning for growth of tomorrow have been three areas that MERIT has consistently called upon and worked with the government to help make and keep Saskatchewan strong. Today’s growth plan announcement addresses these challenges with targeted goals of investing over $30 billion in new infrastructure over the next decade. This new infrastructure will help the province meet other targets set out in the growth plan, including growing the value of Saskatchewan exports, so it will be imperative to get it right.
Over the coming weeks and months MERIT will continue to work with the government to help develop their vision into reality to benefit our growing province and the thousands of open shop workers and companies that build Saskatchewan every day.
