The Low-Down on Construction – September 18, 2019

Last week, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau officially called the federal election. MERIT Saskatchewan knows that elections Elections matter, and policy matters, that is why MERIT continues to advocate for open-shop contractors and workers in Saskatchewan.

As the political parties launch their campaigns MERIT will be keeping a close eye on their announcements and platforms. We will be commenting on those policies that we believe benefit our members and we will be calling out those measures we believe will harm open-shop contractors and workers.

Locally, you will likely hear from and meet the candidates in your individual riding. This is an excellent opportunity for you to speak to them, question them on their platforms, and decide for yourself which party best represents your interests.

MERIT has a few important open shop questions we encourage our members to ask of local candidates when they come knocking on your door.

  1. How will you work to ensure that public procurement remains open, fair, and transparent to all qualified bidders with a focus on best value for taxpayers?
  2. How will you work to ensure Canada’s tax system remains fair for small and medium sized businesses?
  3. How will you work to ensure that we invest in new public infrastructure, that will support future economic growth?

This election might be one of the most important in our country’s history, and will determine which direction we go. We encourage all our members to become engaged in this election as your vote will be crucial  in setting the direction for the next four years.
