Life-Cycle Costing for Pavement Preservation Treatments

Life-Cycle Costing for Pavement Preservation Treatments

We need new strategies to preserve and maintain our municipal roadways at an acceptable level of condition. This infrastructure is critical to the successful transportation of people and goods in any location. As cities and towns grow, so does the strain on our roadway infrastructure. One method that greatly reduces long-term cost is preventive maintenance (PM).  If the existing roadway is in fairly good condition and structurally sound, it can be treated with surface or near-surface treatments that will cost-effectively extend its service life. This webinar focuses on creating a successful roadway preservation plan, looking at common maintenance and rehabilitation treatments, PM treatment costs, discussing whether the benefits of applying PM treatments is cost-effective, and discussing the dos and don’t to ensure the successful use of PM treatments.  This webinar outlines the various pavement preservation treatments that can be used in conjunction with a life-cycle cost procedure to determine the whole life cost of a pavement.

Webinar Benefits

  • To understand the basic design principles and critical aspects of transportation pavement infrastructure
  • Be able to describe key elements to ensure the cost-effective life-cycle of pavements
  • To be able to understand key pavement material properties and performance
  • Identify important issues and inspection and testing tasks to maximize pavement life

To be able to document and understand the impact of the development and use of a pavement preservation program.

Technical Requirements

  1. Computer or laptop

    • This course will involve on-screen interaction with your instructor and classmates, reading/viewing on-screen content (slides or videos), and interacting via typing with questions or responses. For this reason, cellphones may not be adequate.
